Term One

Dear Room 4 Parents,

Welcome to 2016. We have had a great first week back at school, spending a lot of time getting to know each other to build the foundations of a great classroom environment.

Homework 2016
Reading – at least 10 minutes each night. This may include reading books your child brings home from school, a library book or other books at home. Please note that children will not bring books home every night – they will bring them home when they have finished reading them in the classroom.
Mathematics – Completing weekly challenges – these will be given out on Mondays and checked on Fridays.

Notebooks
The notebook in your child’s reading folder is for home-to-school communication. Please write any important messages in these. I will also use them to keep track of the school books that your child brings home – please sign beside these so that I know if your child has read the book again.

Reading Rockets
Your child has been given a Reading Rocket so that you know what they are learning to do in the classroom. Children reading up to the ‘Green Level’ have a corresponding word list which they can practice to read as part of their reading homework. Children will be rewarded when they can read every word on their list. These Reading Rockets and word lists need to stay in their reading folders so they can be used in the classroom and changed as they move up the levels.

Star of the Day
I will be choosing a ‘Star of the Day’ each day, who gets to take home the class toy for the evening. The toy will come with a writing book for the children to write a few sentences about the activities that they did with the toy – it would be great if you could please help your children with this. Students will have a chance to share this writing with the whole class, and they will also have special privileges for the day.

Please send hats and swimming togs to school every day this Term. Your children will have to sit in the shade at lunchtime if they do not have a hat. We will be making the most of the Mayfield Pool, going swimming as much as possible as the weather permits.

    Kind regards,
